You are describing no more than the symptoms of OCD which is comorbid to most BP pts. Again we said before that BP pts are perfectionist they double check everything, this happens not only to the four authors of posts here but to all the people in this forum
Mind you all the questions which are posted these days if you go back a year ago when i subscribed to this forum are typically the same so not only they are repetitive but the person even if he asked them in the past he keeps asking them to be sure he gets the right answer. Incidentally this happens to "normal" people except that with BP it's more pronounced because he is more liable to be affected by stresses in life, and once a stress occurs all these symptoms appear like hell on the surface. Since one can't avoid stress, what i do is to think about something else like Bastet said i.e. to distract myself. Have you seen the film of latifa called "taxi" chasing a gang of robbers beautiful women the police inspector couldn't drive the car except by singing with a loud voice first.
What i want to say this is a universal defect in all human beings but enlarged and magnified with us.
Don't pay much attention to it, the more you think about it the more it becomes annoying
Yeah, thank you. I get music sometimes too. But, being musical I think I just sort of go with it. Today I'm a lot better. Thank you for the advice.
I don't know the answer other than trying to distract yourself as I often not only have repetitive thoughts but music that runs thru my head repeating itself till I about go nuts(nuttier).
I already know the source of the thoughts. When something worries me or catches my attention I get caught in a loop. Like let's say the bills are due. I get stuck in a repetative cycle of checking and rechecking to make sure my math is right because I'm worried that I did it wrong. That is an example. Once the stressor goes away, (all the bills are paid and the bank is not negative,) then the thoughts go away.
But when they happen it drives me up a wall. I'm glad to hear others have this too. I don't think they are masking anything since they are obviously about things that are really happening, I just get stuck thinking about them.
i think i could write this post myself
sorry,wish if i can help
i am just like you waiting to see what others have to say concerning this matter
Best to speak to your psychiatrist to find out what the origin of these thoughts are and how they could be treated. I did have obsessive thoughts in the past but my psychiatrist at the time said they were masking psychotic thoughts so it depends on the person.
