There is controversy about whether people with bipolar should have antidepressants. Lots of people do as they also take mood stabilizers with it. Some people stop them if they become manic/hypomanic and go back on them when they come back down. I was also on a stimulant for awhile, Concerta, and I would stop it temporarily when manic.
Perhaps your new pdoc is against dispensing antidepressants to people with bipolar.
I recommend you only have an antidepressant if you also have a mood stabilizer in place, unless you want to risk the hypomania. People with bipolar disorder generally aren't given antidepressants unless they have that stabilizer.
Thanks, Both of your comments were helpful. I'm new to this and have been reading but it helps getting from people who have been through it or familiar with.
THanks.
Thanks again all for your answers. They all helped and I came down and did exactly as dr said and some of you guys/gals mentioned anti depressants and Bi polar patients don't always mix and the Dr. explained it to me. I feel better and not as hypo and I have couple weeks left in outpatient program so well see what he does.
Thanks
