I have no personal experience with this, but I know (from my knowledge as an RN,) that you can voluntarily be admitted for monitoring etc,,and part of this is medication adjustment. That type of controlled environment is good for the "tweaking" that is often necessary to get the doses just right. Once you "sign in" it is up to the doctor's discretion to say when you can go. Your comfort level with this type of arrangement would be largely based on how good of a relationship you have with your doctor and how well he knows your case beforehand.
I recently went into the hospital for 13 days and am now in outpatient. I am so tired of feeling this way that I decided I had to do something about it. I am scheduled to go to Oschners hospital at the end of July and check into shock treatment. I have heard it has made great advances and having fought this for almost 30 years I am willing to do anyhting to have some joy back in my life. I raised three children, worked full time doing accounting but have found it hard to come out of this last episode. I don't suggest you go to the extremes I am going but I do believe a hospital stay where they are able to monitor and get our meds back on track is well worth it.
Yes this is an option but other than outpatient if you sign in even voluntarily the psychiatrist that you will be working with does determine when you are released. I remember because I did choose this option before recovery. It is a good option though.
