I can suggest to you the things i tried when i was looking for help at the age of 15 and i can advise her on the things not to do. Things not to do are very simple, if she resorts to drugs or alcohol to deal with her pain she is going to end up worse, i know this first hand and so do many others on this forum. When i was 15 i saw school nurses and councillors, i wanted to get advice but i was clever because i knew if i voiced anything to serious because i was 15 the confidentiality would have been broken and parents would have been told. I used to give fake names so they couldnt trace me after the appointment or i would say i was asking on the behalf of a friend.
Would your friend consider coming onto this site and speaking with someone? It really does help, a year ago if someone told me to join a bipolar forum i would have laughed but its helped me so much through the people ive met, its made me feel like im less alone in what i suffer.
Please ask you friend to make a account i think it will help her.
Do you have counselors at your school like we do in the states? They often field questions of students concerning abuse, anorexia, etc. Is she involved in a liberal church? Could she be? You could call your own doctor and ask her what to do.
It isn't for me it is for a friend. She does have a lot of problems, could be typed something else, but needs help because of sucidial tendencies, and other disorders that are similiar to bp. No help from parents, so needs to know options in Canada for help on her own.
I was in the exact same position as you 3 years ago. I waited until i was 18 (legally adult) before i tried getting help from doctors so i could guarrante confidentiality because i was a grown up when i hit 18. Im not sure what the legal age of an adult is in canada.
I think you can see a doctor in confidence without your parents but if they think you are suicidal and a risk to yourself or others they will break the confidence because your still a child.
May i ask why you think you could be bipolar?
