cut back seroquel dosage..can it cause Mania?

I have finally found a drug cocktail that seemed to be working for my Bipolar I was on   .  Recently I was feeling great and back on track.  I started working nights to help my knee pain (reconstructive knee surgery).  I was taking 1 tab of Seroquel in the morning and one at night. I was finding the last dosage before sleep was k-oing me and I was sleeping for 12-14 hrs!  Thats too much sleep and I was missing pasrt of my day because as soon as I would roll out of bed I would have to be to work for 11pm.  So instead I started taking a half before bed, then the other half when I got up.  I found the other half started to make me drowzy before working nights so I stopped taking it.  I cut my self from two to one.  Since doing that (aprox 1 wk) I have started to obsess about things, im easily distracted, I have no interest in my husband, infact he irritates me when I get like that.  Would cutting my dose back like that cause me to go off the charts?

incidentally, is seroquel the only drug you are taking or along with antidepressants. because yes it can trigger mania if you reduce the dose all of a sudden. in fact nobody can tell with certainty because with BP1 one is more vulnerable to becoming manic. This occurred to me, i reduced my seroquel and was on an AD so i got manic which lasted for 8 months. If not for the cessation of the seroquel i might have not have turned manic. Of course perhaps yes perhaps no

i am with IL, cutting it and still sleeping well then it's ok. but if you are using it to gain stability and away from psychosis, anxiety, then you will get irritable again. Still 2 tablets isn't big dosage.

If the Seroquel is being used as a mood stabilizer yes. You could ask your psychiatrist how to adjust and titrate it as to avoid sedation or if that doesn't work what are other available options.
