It could be bipolar but it could be one of many things. I am bipolar and I have issues with sudden rages or anger that comes on me so quick it surprises me..just wham! No warning. But I also have other symptoms of Bipolar and normally Bipolar is accompanied with mania and depression. Regardless of the dx, you need to see a doctor for medication to help control your anger and talk with him regarding anger management classes to learn skills to control anger. I wish you the best because I know it can be scarey. So, please, go see a physc.doc and tell him everything you posted here.
You may not be aware of what else is going on and it would be worthwhile to speak to a psychiatrist as loss of self awareness can occur in many psychiatric disabilities. It would also be worthwhile to think if these thoughts vary from time to time or whether they just occur by themselves or are only triggered by specific emotional events and if so what and when. I'd be most concerned about the last thing you listed as if you have those kind of ideations that would be a reason to speak to a psychiatrist as soon as possible.
I agree, violence is not a diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorder.
Well, it could be bipolar or it could be a lot of other things. Bipolar is not exactly violence or anger. It is a polarity between mania and depression with phases of "normality" in between. Although some people with bipolar do experience anger and intrusive thoughts such as violence, it is not the key symptom. You should check the health pages here for more information. Also, only a psychiatrist can diagnose you with bipolar disorder.
For mania you want to watch for:
Racing thoughts
Grandiose thinking
Risky behavior (drug abuse, alcohol abuse, promiscuity, spending sprees, gambling)
Pressured speech (talking more rapidly or more than usual, often unable to listen in a conversation and interrupting.)
Difficulty concentrating, focusing on one project
Flight of ideas (lots of really awesome ideas that just don't stop!)
Feeling euphoric for no real reason
Being the "life of the party"
Insomnia but not feeling tired despite lack of sleep
For depression you want to watch for:
Loss of interest in activities you normally enjoy
a presistant sadness
feeling hopeless, worthless
change in eating habits (more or less)
Insomnia or sleeping too much
lack of concentration, difficulty making desicions
