Anyone on/had Implanon?

Hey all, Im seriously thinking of getting Implanon put in soon.

Im starting a nursing course which last 3 years and so does the implant, so i figured it would be a wise idea to be protected the whole 3 years and not have to worry about taking pills etc. Knowing me i'd forget to take the pill and find myself in a sticky situation. Not that i dont want kids...id love to! but during my course it would make things a lot harder with a baby.

Anyway, ill stop rambling. Has anyone else had the Contraceptive implant before? im looking for good and bad experiences just so i can be sure its the best choice for me.

Thanks in advance!

Wow it's so long ago when I posted this!

Not sure about the estrogen supplement, but surely if your doc has put you on it and knows you have the implant then he probably would have told you to use extra precautions in the meantime. I would double check tho.

I'm on my second implant! Had the first one out in April '11 and lost a bit of my weight (from 75kg to 62kg) over a year. Gave birth to a little girl in may and don't want any more babies for a good few years! So far only had one 'period' a few days after being put in and a little bit of light bleeding 2 months later.

So far so good! Sex drive has gone way over the top!

Hi! I know this post is over 2 years old, but I need some help. I am getting implanon removed today after two and a half years. It caused many complications, and I just need it to be removed. For the past two weeks, my doctor put me on an estrogen supplement to stop bleeding. Does the estrogen supplement interfere with the effectiveness of the implanon? Thanks!

The thing is with all contraception and not just the implant is that it reacts differently for everybody...we can't know what it will be like for us until we try it. kinda like hit or miss thing really

cant believe how long ago i posted this....my implant will come out in september this year! hoping ill lose the weight ive gained easier than at the moment cause it just wont shift, im not exercising like a maniac but im not pigging out on masses of food either!

Hope all you ladies find the perfect contraception for you! i still sometimes forget i have it in there LOL

I've had the implant for 6-7 months and I've noticed that I got really emotional and I have had absolutely NO sex drive! I get really annoying random bleeding too, so I'm pretty much over it! But everyone is different! I'm getting mine removed late march, let's hope my sex drive come back!!

I am 24yrs old and always had a very high sex drive - I had the implanon in october 2010 I have really irregular periods, either not bleeding or bleeding for weeks on end. I can't stand having my fiance near me - forplay, full sex - it all makes my skin crawl , its ruining my life. However things have happened in our relationship that have caused me severe stress - but nothings changing and its just getting me down so much so I just want to be on my own all of the time. It hurts when I do give in and let him make love to me (my skin crawling all of the time) but I have had so many problems with pills etc, this was a last resort - its going to have to be condoms if I do have it out. And my partner is extrememly fertile!! Its all such a worry. I see u guysa have all had urs out now an u give me more info about it. So many thanks in advance from a woman @ breaking point... Like u wouldn't believe

i have had implanon for a year and at first i had alot of heavy bleading where i was soaking 20 or so tampons a day... that went on for 24 days and then it stoped i havent had a period since... my main reason for saying all this is unless you want to posible get prego... whitch im sure you dont since you got the imlanon... dont take any of the following medications:
st. johns warts
any antibiotics for yeast infection
dont get a tb test or take the antibiotics for it unless you are having protective sex...
there are several and if you feel crampin and see clear stretchy discharge run from men as far as you can go because your ovulating...
your not suposed to ovulate but in some cases you can and you will get prego...
just some friendly advise!!!

I am currently on the Implanon and it works great. The only downside for me is that I've gained weight. I'm not blaming it ON the Implanon, but I feel the Implanon is why I can't lose the weight. Its a cousin to the Depo and I gained 60 pounds on that, and got off of it and on the Pill and lost the weight, now I've been on the Implanon for over a year. I would recommend it. But, myself, I'm deciding whether or not to remove it and get back on the pill or not. (Due to not losing weight)

jennifer1987: Im sorry that the imp[lant didnt work for you...i knew that depression was one of the side effects and i did seem to get a bit teary at times but thats passed now and since ive started placement on my hospital ward ive been so busy i forget its there!

As for the bandage i got put on she told me to leave it on for 48 hours and then take it off. So thats what i did and it was tender but it was ok.

i had mine inserted Oct. 29th. I took the ace bandage off 36 hours later after getting it inserted. My arm was ok, but if i overdid myself, using my arm too much or pick up my children it would start hurting, but that didnt last but a few days. Try not to use your arm that much and see if it gets to feeling better! Good Luck!

Im not to sur about the implanon. I ad it n for 2 and a half years. I took it because i got really depressed, cryin al d tym, bled majority of the time and my moods were unreal.(my boyfriend was on the recievin end of dem) and I ad no sex drive. I took it out bout 1mth ago and Im feelin worse. I did loads of research on it and a lot of ppl have experienced the same as me. If u feel like your depressed I advise you yo take it out. jus keep a close eye on it!

Its been working great. I was worried i would get nausea or something lol, but physically i feel fine...my moods have ben a bit up and down but that could be due to the fact ive just started uni and its all new.

Had a bit browney blood yesturday after only two weeks since my period finished but i wasnt bothered cause i expected something like that.

Generally though, i feel fine, the wound has healed and the bruising is gone...its just weird when you feel it in your arm!

Well, i had the implant put into today and it went really well...was in and out in 10 mins!

It hurt a little when she put in the anaesthetic and i saw the implanon needle and it looked really evil! But when she put it in i didnt feel ANYTHING!

Hurts a lil from time to time and the bruise is there but i expected that...lets hope its the right b/c for me!

i had it in for 3 1/2 years because my doc was always busy or on holiday!! so had to wait till she was available to have it removed, still worked tho! but it is only ment to last 3years! but yeah id definatly reccommened it, and even if your not happy you can get it removed whenever you want :) so thats the plus side aswel as not having to remember to take a pill every morning ;D
good luck let me know how you get on with it :)

Hey

I think i will go for it. Will call my doctor and make an appointment when i get back from my lil holiday. He trained as a Gyn before training as a doctor so he deals with the sexual health clinic and puts in the implants. The only problem is i have a period right now and they want you to be on your period when they do it to make sure your not preggo, but i think they can do a preg test to make sure cause i mentioned i have irregular periods and the nurses will do it...hopefully anyways!

Cause i dont want to wait till i start uni, otherwise i may not get the time. Lol i dont think ill want to conceive in three years, it depends on how me and the bf are financially and home-wise (tho i really cant wait to be a mum!)

Also Clairelou, how come you had it in 3 1/2 years? was it a different one to Implanon? cause as far as i know that only lasts 3 years...if i can get it for longer that would be even better! (i want to also do a year and a half of midwifery training after my nursing course)

Eep! im rambling! Thanks for the comments!

Id say go for the implant!!! i had it in for 3 1/2 years well worth it :) had no probslems atal!
Also when you have it removed the hormones in the rod dont stay in your body, which means if your trying to concieve you dont have to wait :)

Hey thanks for that. Yeah it does sound good when it comes to not having to remember taking a pill everyday. I am pretty worried about what side effects i might get but i guess if they are bad i can get the thing removed and try a different method.

Implanon sounded the best because, like ive said before, no remembering to take a pill, as far as i know its not as bad as the pill for people who get migranes, it wont be as uncomfortable as getting an IUD (from what ive heard) and its supposed to be more effective than the pill...the only thing more effective is sterilisation.

I havent had it myself yet but i'm thinking about getting it done. my best mate has had it done and says its great because she doesnt have the worry of taking the pill every day but she said the only down sides she has found is occasional headaches and mood swings.
I found these sites quite useful, hope they help.
