Help please!!

So I have been on the birth control pill for over two years now.

My boyfriend and I have had sex regularly over that time. We haven't used condoms since I started the pill.

I know that sometimes when you miss a pill it can cause light spotting. I have missed pills before and sometimes this happened to me and sometimes it didn't.

I missed a pill recently, but now I am bleeding very heavily and the blood is dark red rather than brown like it would be if I was just spotting. To add to the bleeding I am also cramping heavily and have been for two days now. The bleeding has also lasted two and a half days despite me taking the pill everyday since I missed one.

To add to this even when I am on my period week on the pill I never have a heavy period its always very light and only lasts a couple of days, I am in the middle of my pack so my period is not meant to come yet.

I am starting to freak out that maybe this is more than just a missed pill. Is it possible I was pregnant and didn't realise and am now having a miscarriage?

Answers would be appreciated.

There have been many many clinical studies over the years related to the pill and fertility and the conclusion is that they do not have any negative effects on future fertility.

As for why you are having heavy bleeding, it's likely due to uterine polyps or fibroids, both of which require an ultrasound to see. My suggestion is that you make an appointment with your gyne for ultrasound to find out if that's what it is.

Hi, I think u need to go and see a doctor. Bleeding heavily like this isn't right. Birth control is actually meant to regulate your periods, make them lighter and less painful. Missing pills can alter your bleed but it Aldo lessens your contraceptive cover especially if u missed a pill in your first or last week or missed more than one pill. Also as your not using a condom is there a chance you might have caught an infection, they can often cause bleeding between or very heavy periods.
It may be a simple case of switching brand of pill but worth being checked out. Also birth control pills do not affect your fertility and can be a very effective method of Birth control and period ''management'!
Good luck

please stop taking birth controll pills ...other wise you will not be able to reproduce....they have negative affects on the reproductive system....and these pills have a role in cramping too...i experienced it...heavy bleeding is good...it lightens the body...pills areactually disturbing your natural period pattern....so use condom or other ways...and you will be fine...
