Mirena only lasts 5 years you should have gotten a card with it giving you dates to have your annual exam based on your insertion date. You will need to get it removed bc it won't be effective any longer as it is a hormone birth control. For most people it's much easier getting it out than putting it in.
Removal of any IUD doesn't really cause any discomfort during removal after expiry time,Mirena up to 5 years. Most of the complications and discomfort is caused due to sepsis and displacement or expulsion of IUD which prompts for removal.Removal of an IUD requires sterile environment, an experienced Gynecologist who is aware of the anxiety and discomfort during the removal procedure.Reassuring of the patient and patient understanding and co operation are prerequisites for a successful removal of any IUD.In an experienced hands this doesn't really cause any discomfort. There is really nothing much to be worried about any thing if all the precautions have been taken by the consulting Doc.Talk to your Doctor and get counseling, say what makes feel much anxious. You will just feel a discomfort when the traction forceps is being inserted and there will little bleeding but that will soon subside. If you have any medical conditions like migraine, coagulopathy,PID ,pregnancy, purulent discharge or abdominal pain prompts for careful follow after removal. If you dont have any condition mentioned above, no issues other than anxiety is considered. Use of IUDS have many complications when they are inside the uterus as many medical conditions seem to have relation with it like perforation, sepsis, Ectopic pregnancy, rejection, missing threads, displacement and so on.But only patients psychological issue takes the main part during removal as there are no risks of any medical situation.Be cool.Prepare mentally.
The mirena does not hurt at all to be removed. Its like removing a tampon...they grab the string and simply pull. They are finding out that the mirena can actually last up to 6 years... But if its time id just make the appt. If u want a new one they can do that the same tine they remove the old one. Anyway if your appt for removal isnt till jan say...dont sweat it. Not a big deal.
