Period in the middle of the pack?

Hi! I just started using lo loestrin fe in September 2013. I'm on my second month but in the first month I received my period in the second week. It lasted for like two to three weeks. Then I was period free for a week or so which was the two brown sugar pills and then the first week of my second pack. I'm now on the second week of my second pack and have received my period again! Can someone please explain to me why I'm getting my period now instead of the sugar pills? Also could my excessive bleeding (the period for two to three weeks) been a miscarriage? My period was late and I had some brown spotting the day before I started the pack. Please help! I'm very confused! Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for your advice! My period did come again during the second week but it didn't last nearly as long and it was very light! I'm hoping you're right and it'll just fix itself by the third cycle! Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it :)

Hello,
Spotting or bleeding while on active pills is quite common in the first cycle of pills or if pills are missed or taken late. Bleeding may be very light or can be as heavy as a period and may occur anytime in the cycle of active pills. It is important to take the pill at the same time every day .These symptoms will usually improve as you continue additional cycles of pills and should not be occurring by the end of the third cycle.. In case you notice that your periods start persistently before you finish the active pills, or that the period lasts into the active pills of the next cycle, it is suggested to contact your healthcare provider. Hope it helped. Keep me posted.
Kind regards!
