alternative to birth control for hair loss

I took birth control for about 8 years.  I decided to stop, just for the hell of it (I originally went on birth control to get my period back because it had stopped once I went to college and played soccer in college and was exercising more than I ever had)  So after I stopped, about 3 months after, my hair had started falling out at crazy amounts.  I would say I lost like 40% of my hair.  All hormone levels were normal, thyroid normal, etc.  So the gyno thinks it was bc I stopped the BC, and I agree bc I hadn't done anything different in those 3 months, no added stress, etc.  So, I went back on BC and the hair stopped falling out.  And I have been for the last 3 years, but I am thinking future and I would like to have kids eventually and well I know this isn't very likely while im on BC, but at the same time I don't want a repeat of the hair thing, so my question is; are there any known medications out there that could act as an alternative to birth control when used to treat hair loss?  And I am not referring to rogaine or propecia or anything like that.  A pill that mimics what the estrogen in the Yasmin does to prevent my hair from falling out?

Have you thought about gradually coming off the tablets? A slow gradual change is much less likely to cause problems than a sudden change.

OK, well yes being a mother is definitely something I want.  However, no I would never ever be willing to just say bye bye to my hair.  I imagine there is a solution out there and I will continue to search for one.  I would imagine others have had this problem and have hopefully found a solution.  And Aadia, I have not considered that, but I think that is a great idea to at least bring up to my obgyn.  Because that is how you weed yourself off of most other meds, so perhaps it will work with BC.  Thanks for the input!!

If this were me, I would stay on the BC for now, then stop the BC and simply say bye-bye- to my hair when I wanted a baby, because, in my opinion, becoming a mother is alot more important than hair.  After the birth of my baby, I would resume the BC, and then have my hair back.  Blessings - Blu
