Birth Control-Since age 14

I was 14 years old when I was put on birth control pills (trivora tab) for a 7cm cyst that I had on my right ovary. I am 22 now and I have been on birth control pills ever since except for 6 months out of these 7 years. I was kept on them because when I was taken off at the age of 18 for 6 months, I immediately got another cyst.

I am posting here because I am extremely worried about blood clots. I sometimes feel pains in my legs and arms and automatically think I have a blood clot. The pain starts off sharp then its dull. What are the risk factors for me developing this condition? I have no varicose veins, not a smoker, 5'2-149 pounds, I excercise. I am scared and I know that even though I'm healthy just being on the birth control pill can cause blood clots.

Should I go to the doctor and tell them to check me? I don't want them to think I'm crazy. What are the symptoms for blood clots and should I be worried?

I went to go see the RN health care provider at our University Clinic until I could get to my doctor in my hometown. She told me the same thing. The red, swelling, and warm to the touch. She felt my leg and didn't notice anything. She also said I am at very low risk for blood clots. I don't smoke, occasionally drink, am not around people who smoke, not over 35, etc. I also don't think my family has a history of ovarian cysts. I am scheduled for blood work first thing tomorrow in the morning at 8am. They are going to check everything including my CBC's or so she called them I think to see if I have any blood clot disorder that I may not be aware of. She made me feel much more at ease and told me to continue my pills because I am at very high risk of getting a cyst again. I do want to have children someday and my right fellopian tube is already scarred because of the cyst I had at age 14 and I most definately want to have children so I want to keep my ovaries safe. Thank you all for the advice.

Ticked: I pretty sure those side effects are the pill. I was getting really bad migrained and I had to go into get an MRI. Low and behold it was fine. I think all this thinking of sicknesses had made my anxiety levels sky rocket and hypchondriasm set in.

I have been on the CBCP for almost 4yrs for Endometriosis. I was fine up until recently.  I do get those sharp pains as well as in my head. I am always concerned with a blood clot. my body isnt creating estrogen and is starting to give me the most worst side effects.  I have recently come off them because I really have no choice and I know the endo will grow but I cant live like this either. Its a catch 22. My body needs to feel pregnant all the time or I am not well.  I get nauseated, acne, cramping, moody and migraines when I am not on the pill, when I am on it I now get vaginal and rectal fissures, itchiness and pain with sex.  I have no infections or STD's I am almost 100% its from the pill.

Thanks ku111 for clearing that up I never knew that they were warm to touch as well as red and swelling.

Blood clots are warm to the touch, red and swelling.  You can be on birthcontrol until 35 yrs old.  That's when they start telling you to think of other options (around that time).  Do you have a family history of blood clots that would put you at higher risk?  If you are wanting children, keeping those ovaries ok are important.  After you have children (if you choose) then there are other options for you.

Yes mam! I take it continuously to prevent ovarian cysts. I have been on it for 7 years but have never had any problems. I called my doctor, I have an appointment for next tuesday. She told me to stop taking the pill for the remainder of the time but I'm scared to do that too because that can throw off my period and cause cysts. I'm on the last week before the sugar pills so I'm thinking maybe ill do what she said since I am close to the sugar pills. What do you feel?

I have the same feelings. You are more at risk if you are over 35, a smoker and are overweight i think.

Do you take the pill continuously?
