Blood Pressure & PEs

Currently being treated for extensive multiple bilateral pulmonary embolisms with Xarelto. Hypertension is not being controlled adequately with Lisinoprol 20mg BID. Runs around 147/93 pulse 104 while sitting. They had me taking metropolol 25mg BID on top of the Lisinopril, but had to discontinue due to abdominal cramping, diarrea and major depressive mood swing, confusion and just a general feeling of being in a fog. Has body become so used to the Lisinopril that it's just not working any more? They want me to keep heart rate lower, but it's just not working!

Hi!
If you are not responding to lisnopril and metoprolol is causing side effects then other beta blockers can be tried or you can be given diltiazem or verapamil.  Heart ECHO, holter, or stress ECHO etc should be done. You should also get your blood cholesterol, lipid, triglyceride, blood sugar and thyroid levels checked.
Please discuss this with your cardiologist. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Thanks for your reply, but I had a full cardiac work up summer of 2011 (everything was fine) and more recently an ECHO along with dopler and sonogram to check legs and carotid artery, end of August 2013 when episode of extensive multiple bilateral pulmonary embolisms occurred. The 2 drugs you mentioned are in the same class as amlodipine, which I cannot take due to severe facial flushing and after the side effects of the metropolol (severe abdominal cramping, diarrea, headache, depressive mood swing, extreme confusion) I am very hesitant to try yet another beta blocker.
