Hi there. This is typically superficial thrombophlebitis caused by multiple intravenous injections from the same vein. An affected superficial vein is seen as a hard, tender, inflamed cord like structure under the skin. The catheter or iv line should be removed. Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs to reduce the inflammation should be taken, pain killers, antibiotics if there is an infection, topical application of a local anesthetic containing cream like lignocaine to decrease the pain.
Frequent checks of pulse, blood pressure, temperature, skin condition and blood flow should be monitored along with a look at whether some deep vein is also affected which could be alarming due to the inherent risk of pulmonary embolism associated.
Tell these concerns to the treating physician and wish you a speedy recovery.
Take care.
Hi.
It sounds like you have got thromobophlebitis, which is a clot in the vein.
There is a good cream you can rub on called hirudoid.
Which is for clots in the veins.
But if you get any swelling or redness, or hot feelings, or loss off sensation in arm or fingers, you need to see the GP straight away.
Hope this as helped, be very careful, keep your eye on it.
These can take weeks to go, as i have had these myself.
But if it doesnt start going then you need to see another doctor, maybe one a little more competant.
Good luck
Nicola
