Low prolactin

Does low prolactin always mean there is a tumor present in the pituitary gland?

If you are concerned about your pituitary, you need more testing. Just testing the prolactin is not comprehensive.

3.1 is near the low limit but it is still ok. Are you smoking? As far as the herniated disc its very common.

Low prolactin is usually not a concern unless you are trying to breast feed.

If you have other hormones of the pituitary that are low, then that is a concern and may mean a pituitary issue, be it a tumor, cyst, trauma or other.

42 year old female,
I had tingling in my hands and feet.  My neuro checked me for carpal tunnel and ordered a brain MRI to check for MS which came back clear.  Then told me there was nothing wrong with me, it was anxiety. I went on my way and decided to have ob/gyn test my hormone levels to see if what was going on with me was hormone related. All other hormones in normal range. Prolactin 3.1
Meanwhile, went back to neuro to insist on neck MRI.  Glad I did, because the neck MRI showed stenosis and herniated discs at c5-6 and c6-7. In PT for herniated discs.

if there was a tumor there would be a raised PRL level usually. You do not specify anything at all in this post. Gender, age, reason of blood test.
