Biopsy

I had a breast biopsy that says Mildy atypical cells however the chromatine pattern does not look malignant. What does that mean, what are the other possible causes for this if not malignant. I did another biopsy 4 days after and came out as fibroadenoma. Do I need to worry, what other steps shall I do.

Hi,

The atypical cells need not necessarily imply cancer.

About the sore nipples, this could be eczema or due to trauma, injury, tight clothes , etc and least of all due to paget's. Paget's is a gradually progressive disease.

It would be best to consult your doctor for a clinical examination.

Let us know if you have any other doubts and post us on how you are doing.

Regards.

Thanks I saw my doctor in Feb 2008 which was my last visit he advised on breast examination that every thing is normal and I should not need to worry about it.
1. Every day, I watch for my breasts and see if any changes occure. Thank GOD nothing is abnormal till now.
2. I am told that I have hormonal fluctations and my body creats fibroadenomas. I have 2 in the right breast and 2-3 on the left breast.
3. Could there by eny reason for the mildly atypical cells: Could the biopsy be wrong, could it be fungal infection or other, should it always be cancer.
4. What about the 2nd biopsy that says it is fibroadenoma. I am lost. Although the doctors say nothing to worry for, I do not know why then do I keep worrying myself.
5. It is a year till now, and I have a sore nipple that did not heal, could this be paget's. If so, does paget's progress slowly, I mean could it stay idle for a year? Please answer this point.

Hi,

You should just relax and discuss this in detail with your breast specialist.

Most probably, you would need regular breast self examinations, periodic clinical examinations by your breast specailsit and repeat mammograms annually or 6 monthly as your specialist advises.

You would need to report any abnrmal features that you notice on breast self examination like breast lumps, skin changes or nipple discharge to your doctor.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Post us about what your doctor advises.

Regards.
