I had a fluid pocket too but I didn't have expanders, just the mastectomy for 18 months then DIEP reconstruction. My plastic surgeon for the DIEP reconstruction removed the pocket of fluid when he opened me up. Otherwise I would have had needle aspiration. I know a lot of women who have had this problem and the aspiration should be painless and in fact, you should feel better immediately!

Try not to worry. You know that waiting is the hardest part! :)

Hi,
So sorry that no one answered your post.Could be that sometimes members don't have enough info about this particular situation to comment on your post... and truthfully neither do I.But I have read that it is not uncommon for fluid to collect under the skin after breast surgery. Over time, this will reabsorb. If the pain is not tolerable, the fluid can be drained and also checked for infection, but it may re accumulate and the procedure might be repeated. It could take months for this to resolve, but it will eventually resolve in time.
You don't need to be freaking out over this..it happens very often after any kind of breast surgery. After the fluid has been drained the pain will lessen considerably.
Wishing you all the best and good luck..
