DCIS

I was just diagnosed with DCIS and was told that because of the size of the masses, I will have to have a mastectomy. I would like to know if anyone has had this done, how did it go for you? And also I am wondering about reconstruction.  And also I am being tested for BRCA1 and 2 because I am only 26. I am nervous and if anyone could share their eperience I would appreciate it.

I am very sorry to hear of your biopsy results. From what I have read on here so far by reading all the posts I could while I was awaiting my own biopsy results was all  with a  good outcome with the masectomy and reconstruction. Your age and it not spreading are on your side. I will be praying for you and for your surgery to go well and to have a speedy recovery. I know it is hard, but build up your faith you are going to beat this scary, yet curable event in your life. Sending tons of prayers up for you and please keep us all posted of your surgery outcome. Your in my thoughts. Blessings to you! Carol
PS! Any family history? Wondering because of your age.

I am so sorry to hear your biopsy results.  I will certainly be praying for a swift recovery for you!  My mother-in-law was diagnosed with DCIS and underwent a masectomy and reconstruction five years ago.  She is cancer free and looks great.  You are in my prayers.

Hi,  I just got the same result from my biopsy.   And I'm going for the BRCA test next week.   It is all very surreal - but I'm sure you will do well.  You are very young and have a great future to look forward to.  I've been assured by a number of survivors that although mastectomy and reconstruction seems very frightening, it is worth it.

I am really so VERY sorry to know that the results you got from your biopsy isn't the one we hoped for.I don't know much about mastectomy and reconstruction, but I have read about many cases such as yours that have had a very successful outcome after their mastectomy and reconstruction..There is a Forum that deals with breast reconstruction that I think would be very useful to you, just to get more information from women as young as you are, and older ones too.Being so young, I would presume that reconstruction would be something to be considered and pursued. The good thing in all of this is that the cancer you have is( thank God) confined and that it hasn't spread.I will certainly pray for you that your surgery will be uneventful and very successful.Wishing you the very best my dear. God Bless you.
