Has this every Happened to Anyone?

My annual mammo showed microcalifications in a small area.  They did additional views and they were clustered.  The rad recommended a sterostatic biopsy.  I had that done on 5/28 and the pathology report said: Focal Atypica Ductal Hyperplasia.  Fibroccystic changes including interlobular fibrosis, micro/macrocyst formation, cloumnar cell change and adenosis.  Microcalcifications are identified and associated with benign ductal elements.  The rad and my obgyn recommended an excisional biopsy of the area, which I had done on 6/12.  They told me this was standard recommendation when atypica ductal hyperplasia was diagnosised.  The Pathology Center that my excisional biopsy was sent to yesterday informed by doctor that they needed a second opionion on the slides and have referred my slides on to another pathology center.  I am a wreck!!!!! I don't understand why it is being referred on.  This is really scaring me and all my doctor would say was that they wanted a 2nd opinion before the final report was given.  Has anyone ever ran across this before?  Any support would be appreciated.  I am almost 100% sure it is cancer and they aren't telling me.   Its bad enough waiting for the results, but now that they have to go to another Pathology Center, it will be another week.  Thanks

The same thing happened to me. I had microcalcifications in both breasts. A stereotactic biopsy was done on both. Both biopsies showed atypia. Had a bilateral excisional biopsy done Dec. 07. Had to wait 8 weeks for the results. Thats the Canadian health care system for you. There was no 2nd opinion needed for the left breast it was IDC.1.6cm, low grade er/pr pos.her2 neg. But the right breast they wanted a 2nd opinion. It turned out not to be cancer in the right breast. Had a re-excision and SNB March 08 on the left. lymph nodes were neg.clear margins. Could not  decide if I should do chemo, so paid the 3500.00 to have oncotype test done. Score 17. Decided against chemo Started Rads 2 weeks ago ....2 more weeks to go .....yippie. Don't panic because getting a 2nd opinion doesn't mean its cancer. But if it is, they caught it very early

I understand the feelings your going thru.  But if it is c, you have caught this in the very earliest stage.  Its better they review all the tests carefully then to rush and tell you everything is alright. Relax, you'll be fine.
