Hi,
An ultrasound is helpful to differentiate whether a particular lesion is solid in consistency or cystic. This is helpful in determining the further plan of management and whether a biopsy would be required or fluid removal from the cyst.
Talk to your breast specialist about this and let us know what he/she advises.
Let us know if you have any other doubts and also post us about how you are doing.
Regards.
Thank you for your comments. I am sure everything will be fine, its just the not knowing.
It would appear that some abnormal acitivity was identified on the Mammogram and an Ultrasound is required to get a clearer picture. Relax, it may be absolutely nothing, they just have to be sure. It could be some calcifications, cyst, benign lump etc. This does not mean you have breast cancer, it is merely a precaution. Ultrasounds are very good for identifying cysts and benign lumps. I'm sure all will be ok. The reason they say 3 hours is waiting time, ultrasound, speaking with doctor afterwards and maybe and only if necessary a biopsy. I'm sure they say this to all women attending the clinic.
Good luck
