Dear Deffok, Breast cancer is uncommon in men, particularly in young men, but a nipple discharge is also uncommon in men. Without examination, we cannot speculate on what this lump might be. If you are not content with the first two opinions you have received, you have a couple of options. One is to discuss your concerns with one of the doctors you saw and explain that the worry is impacting your life. Perhaps some type of testing can be done to reassure you. Alternatively, you could seek a third opinion.
Sorry to double post.
But a few weeks ago my chest and underarm area began to itch. The area behind the left nipple itched alot. The itchiness is not as bad as it was anymore.
I'd try for a third opinion and ask for testing. Breast cancer in men is rare, but it does happen.
I don't know if you are a man or a women but breast cancer can happen at any age. I have a friend that is a male and got breast cancer at 36. You did not say how old you were. Every lump should always be checked out.
OK I see the male and 20 years old now. Sorry. Like I said earlier any lump should be check. By a specialist. On the discussion board at breastcancer.org there is a place where men discuss lumps and breast cancer. A wonderful site with lots of information.
Ok. I'll go see my doctor this week.
The two I saw before were male. Perhaps a female doctor will take me more seriously? Because of a computer network, she will be able to see that I went to see 2 doctors previously about this. that probabaly reduces my chances of getting any useful help (that's the feeling I had last time).
I live in the UK. The way it works is that I have to go see a GP, and then that GP might refer me to a specialist. Key word being might. I have been reading horror stories where people in their 30s cannot even get a referral, only to discover that they have breast cancer years later. I swear to God if no one takes me seriously this week I don't know what I will do.
If I demand outright for a biopsy, can they refuse? Or will I have to keep trying and seeing different doctors? Because of their computer network, they will probabaly think I'm just paranoid and shoot me down won't they?
I think it's reasonable to demand an ultra sound at the very least. I would also see a female doctor, as you suggest. Good luck! I know dealing with bureaucracy is frustrating. Stay strong!
The guy who posted, said in the subject area he was a male - I suggest you should read the whole post before posting - my father always said "engage your brain before your mouth " seems like you should do that before your fingers. Just a thought/.
llezziecee -If you can't be polite get off the forum. We are all here to help. I don't need you correcting me, I corrected myself. Last time I check I was 41 and did not need a bady sitter. We don't need people like you on our forum to put people down we are all here to help. Find somebody else to pick on. Yourself. LOL. To the original poster. We sometimes have conflicts here. Please do not let it discourage you from posting, we are all here to help. I have breast cancer and I'll be dam_ if I need some _____ responding to me in such a manner. Maybe they will grow up someday.
deffok - If there is anything we can help you please let us know.
I don't like being mean to people but that was uncalled for. Thanks for respecting my feelings. Like I said we are all help to help each other. Now I am depressed and mad.
No, don't be depressed. Mad is good. You stood up for yourself and it was very appropriate. You should feel good about yourself. I have a problem speaking out and I thought it was great.
After reading so many posts over the last few months, I have gotten mixed up several times myself on who had what, when, and why. The people who post here regularly do a great service to others who have questions and they don't need to be unfairly criticized. People come to this site for support, and negativity is the last thing we need to add to our already stressful lives.
There have been so many ladies and men here lately with this epidemic it seems that I have become confused also. I can only wait for new postings and postings after everyones pathology to try and help. It does get a bit confusing. For a while I tried using a calendar to write this all down but that became quite a chore. I wish everyone well here.
You are a big help so keep posting.
Please do not let the unkindness and insensitivity of one person keep you from posting to this site. I appreciate all of your input and the concern you express for everyone.
I still feel bad. I should have bitten my tongue and ignored it. I went back and notice leizzie has had breast cancer 3 years. We all have bad days. Glad they took it out on me. Like I said, all our stories help all of us. I hope she continues to post here. Wish I would get this monthly over with. I am still seriously depressed. May be the Holidays. Not much family any more. I do have a great husband and 3 little girls that I am extremely thankful for. And all my friends here. If it had not been for some of you, ALL OF YOU, this site, Montana girl, Under Forty Pam, avid hicker, Naniam, Mary and even the newcomers I am not sure I could have done all I have had to do this year. Thank you all. I am grateful. Every day I wake I am thankful.
Don't feel bad, that was rude, like everyone says we are on here to help not to critize..........don't beat yourself up over it.
I hope you are doing okay.
I am so sorry I upset you - I withdraw my comments unreservedly and apologise for being so uncaring.
Although no excuse, I was really going through a bad day - my husband had been through a yearly programme of tests for his inability to walk, seen Vascular surgeons, cardiologists (had an angiogram that went wrong and kept bleeding)a neuro spinal surgeon, two MRI scans, and we are no further forward. At the same time I had a problem with my right breast and thought it was ibc - now advised it is lymphodoema of the breast. Knew it happens in the arm, but never heard of it in the breast.
Boni, please accept my apologies - I meant no harm, just had a really bad day.
Thank you for being there for all of us.
Liz.
lliezzie - no offense taken. I am sorry to. I went back on this forum and breastcancer.org and read about your difficulties. I believe you are having it worse than me after reading your post. We're in this together, like it or not, LOL. My mood swings are terrible. Trust me I know exactly what you are talking about. I sometimes find myself bitting off the heads that love me most. This is all so tramatic. Now we'll get over our hurdles and be best of friends here. Sounds so much better. Again I am sorry also. I wish you well.
I have the same thing. I amd 15 yrs old and i had a small lump under my left nipple. I squeezedon it and it discharged like a brown-ish fluid.
