What does lymph nodes in the breast mean???

Hi,

I was told after having three consecutive mammograms taken on my left breast plus a sonogram that there is a lymph node way deep in the breast bone. The doctor said she will see me in 4 months to check it again. Does this mean cancer? Could it be I always had it and they never detected it?

yea im sure thats it. i only know about lymph nodes coz iv been studying anatomy recently hehe. yea if ur worried just do the self examinations, make sure u check under ur arm and above and below ur collar bone, and breast for any swelling etc. or if your worried go back and ask questions, im sure they wont mind.

Thanks lizzy100. I was so nervous after having the mammogram taken so many times plus the sonogram, that I really didn't question the doctor and when she said she would see me in 4 mos. I just was glad to get out of there. I guess if it was something now, they would have not waited to see me in 4 mos.

lymph nodes are where infection drains to. ie if you developed cancer or an infection one of the lymph nodes could become inflamed because the infection would drain into it. lymph is part of the immune system if u like. i suspect what they mean is there is a lymph node deep in your breast and it probably looks ok now, but they will check it again in 4 months to make sure it hasnt enlarged/become inflammed which would indicate infection. do u think thats what they meant? im sure if u had a prob kno they would be doing something about it, so thats prob what they meant.
