Routine Testing

Hi  I am a breast cancer 7 year survivor. I previously took tamoxifen for 5 years. During that time, I had yearly pelvic utrasound exams as I was told that the endometrial lining could thicken and had to be watched.  I am now on Femara for the last year.  I dont believe that Femara has that same effect on the endometrius.  My gynocologist examined me this year (3 weeks ago) and said everything looked fine.  My ovaries, etc. all were normal.  He said he would see me in a year and then wrote me a prescription for a pelvic ultrasound stating that it was a good test to have.  My question is if there is nothing to be investigated, what is the purpose of my going each year for a pelvic ultrasound.  Is it routine just because I had breast cancer?

Hi there ... I remember you and glad to hear that you are evidently doing well. The yearly pelvic US is a good idea; one of the side effects of both Tamoxifen and Femara is Endometrial Cancer. It would be more routine because of the drugs than because of the BC alone. Regards ...
