Tamoxifen

Hello everyone it's been a year now since I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)  estrogen receptor positive.  I want to know what you guys know about   Tamoxifen or how you feel about taken it for 5 years.  I tried it but it made me sick to the stomach and also I found out if a woman has heavy periods taken the pill is high risk for uterine cancer and its only approximately 6% in cure rate. I’m just afraid that if I take the pill other things may go wrong and if I don't reoccurrence may be a factor as well?  Happy New Year and god bless.

It's always somewhat of a dilemma and you have to weigh the benefit against the side effects. It is certainly used a majority of the time and has been proven to reduce the risk of recurrance. There are side effects from most drugs but not everyone will experience all of them NOR will everyone experience them to the same extent. You can never base your reaction upon anyone else's .... it's best to try it before making a decision to skip it completely. You can always stop taking the drug IF the side effects are so severe that you are unable to tolerate them. Also there are other drugs that may be tried and produce less side effects.   Regards ......
