MRI for possible Breast Cancer

I have a question regarding MRI.   I found a lump on my right breast and had a mammogram followed by an ultrasound both of which did not show anything abnormal. My doctor recommended seeing the surgeon. The surgeon said he did not find any thing wrong.  Said he would normally recommend a needle biopsy, but because of the condition of my dense breast knows that he would get a negative result and the only way to know for sure that no cancer is present was to do surgery.  I reluctant to have surgery for something the doctors say looks normal.

I understand from this board that the MRI can produce a lot of fault positive results but my question would be it the results are negative is that a definite for sure negative.   Thanks for your time

Thanks for your reply.
I have asked the surgeon about an MRI and I'm waiting to hear back.
My OBGYN said that there was no point in an MRI !!
I am hoping that it is just dense tissue I can feel and would really like to avoid surgery for something the doctors have not identified as an issue.
Thanks again.

Yes, that can be true in some cases but MRI is very valuable when dense breast tissue is present. This is a VERY sensitive type of imagery and can "see" thru the dense tissue. The lump you feel could very well be just the lumpiness of the dense breast tissue. To put your mind I would suggest that you go ahead with the MRI. Regards ....
