Or, better even, tell them you are already experiencing withdrawals. Sometimes, it takes a while before this actually happens as the drug stays in your system for a while, usually. Depends on if it's short acting or not.
It's good that you have a few xanax left, take half the dose now until you can speak to a doctor or nurse about the situation.
Call your doctor, or whoever has been prescribing the effexor, and explain that you are out of the medicine and have heard it's a risk, and bad to quit cold turkey, and to please call into the pharmacy, or get a script for, or samples, for a few more of the pills to keep you from going through withdrawals.
They will understand completely and do it right away/
No, there is a "discontinuation syndrome" with Effexor unless you taper off very gradually, and if you have been on Xanax at more than a low dose, and for very long, there is a risk of seizure activity if you stop it abruptly.
You need to get in touch with your doctor to obtain refills and/or instructions for discontinuing these meds.
