lingering fatigue

I had a 3" cyst in my left breast and pathology results indicated an intraductal papilloma. I had a lumpectomy to remove the cyst in June 2008 which showed no intraductal papilloma or cancer cells. Diagnosis is fibrocystic disease. I returned home the same day, but a blood vessel did not seal and I had emergency surgery 10 hours after the lumpectomy for a very, very large hematoma. Both surgeries were done under general anesthesia.

After 3 1/2 months, I still have aching pain in my breast. I saw my physician and he said to take ibuprofren for two weeks and cut back on caffeine. He thinks my body is still absorbing the blood from the hematoma. It has now been three weeks with ibuprofren and drastic caffeine reduction. I still need to wear a sports bra at night in order to sleep and If I accidently lift anything slightly heavy, I can feel it pull and the pain increases.  I work at an office job, full time, but by the time I get home I cannot hardly function due to fatigue. Could this fatigue be due to the general anesthesia?  I failed to mention that I also underwent gallbladder surgery in february 2008 under general anesthesia.

Thank you for your time
Lori

Thank you for your response. I felt such a relief for you to say it could take a year to get over the gallbladder surgery & 4 months for the breast surgery. I really didn't get any feedback on that from the surgeon. I also had a colonoscopy 1 week before the gallbladder surgery. I'm just tired and I feel like someone needed to validate my need to rest. I will get a good multi vitamin today and start giving myself permission to take care of myself and rest more. Thank you for your advice and support.

Geeze you have been thru it.  The gallbladder surgery was major surgery which can take up to a year to be your old self.  The fatigue would not be from anestesia this far out but more like your body is still recovering from all these surgeries.  I had hysterectomy in Fen and a Lumpectomy just a few weeks ago now.  The lumpectomy can make your breast hurt for 4 months and maybe a bit more, I was told.  I would think about taking a good multi vitamin if you r not now.  It takes time after major surgery and you need to be patient with yourself. You have been thru alot. Its not a crime to take a nap when your tired or just sit down and relax a bit. I hope you feel better soon, maybe a physical might be in order too. Good luck. Madge
