Build up of Fluid in eye cavity 1 year after eye was removed.

I have a 5 year old cat. She had a eye that was taken out about a year ago because a foreign object cause her looked like a giant marble. Her eye heeled very well. About 2 weeks ago I noticed that she had fluid in the cavity. The area does not look infected and she is eating well. Does anyone know what is going on?

Now, that is an issue I've never heard of before and I've had cats my whole life(over 30 yrs).  It doesn't sound like it's too bad.  Definitely doesn't sound life threatening.  Did the vet mention how often this happens?  And, what can be done to prevent future episodes?

Best wishes to you and your fur kid!

I took my cat to the vet this afternoon. My Vet remove about 6cc of fluid from her eye area. The fluid was clear with no blood or pus. Even though Sammy eye was taken out last year she still has eye ducts. My Vet  thinks that her tear duct is blocked. For now we watch to see if it happens again. Hopefully this will not be a issue in the future. :-)

Could you let us know what the vet has to say. Sounds pretty serious!

Thanks ,

I agree.  This needs to be checked out by a vet.  I had a cat that also had an eye removed due to melanoma in the eye.  There was never any fluid build up or leakage or anything like that.

Please get your cat to the vet.  Better safe than sorry.

sorry I meant to say fluid build up not discharge, this doesn't sound good in my opinion...

we are no Vets here and no one can begin to tell you what was wrong without a physical examination....this kitty needs to see a Vet...and soon.

this isn't normal, I had a kitty that had to have his eye removed d/t loss of blood supply to the nerve. he lived for 3 yrs afterward and there was never a discharge of any kind...make sure she see's a Vet ok...
