Cat Behavior

My husband and I picked out a kitten at the local human society about 8 months ago. When we got her she seemed to bond real  well with me.  She is a beautiful gray tortise.  I became deathly sick and spent 5 weeks away from her .  /she was about 4months at the time and is now almost a uear.  Anyway since I have returned she will not sit on my lap, let me hold her or play.  She dose let me pet her if I go to her when she is laying down.  My husband can pick her up and hold her.  I am thinking she was traumatized when I wast sick and left.  Is there anything I can do to help reassure her and rebond? Thank you for all you in put

Thank you for your support.  i am feeling better slow but sure.

God is good and is healing me on his time not mine.  A rather complicated situation but final results similar to having a stroke.  Doesn't take much to make me feel happy and excited physically these days.

My cat means alot to me and patience is a virtue I have to work on.  i did get her to eat out of my hand this morning.  Yes she likes snacks and knows where they are kept.

My hubby had her trained to get goodies at 7am and 7pm.  She continues to come to him at those time by 10 to 15 minustes off.  It is cute.

I have some pictures posted of her on my profile page.

Thank you everyone for your input.

I agree with PrettyKitty and opus...she will likely start returning your affection as soon as you become part of the normal "routine" around the home again.  Many of our pets are used to the same routine day after day and since you were gone, she adjusted to a new routine that involved your husband.  Given time and patience, she will readjust back to you and realize that you are part of her loving and caring family.

I agree with Opus88. Give her the space she wants. She will come around. They all do. I'm sure everything will go back to normal, but be patient. Feed her...try to stimulate her to play with you...and give her treats. Does she like treats? Get her some treats and hand feed her. Nothing beats that. Your cat will come around. Just be patient.

Sorry about your illness. Hope you are feeling better.

I think kitty did miss you alot when you were not there and has just transfered her affection to you're husband...be patient kitties have big hearts and room enough for 2, she will accept you again it will just take some time for her to get used to you around permanently again.
