Cat Twitching & OverGrooming

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with the way my cat started acting. My cat is a 2 year old male, and just three days ago he began twitching alot.  No particular area, sometimes its his ears or head, then it might be his back, or tail, etc.  He tends to do this the majority of the day when awake. We've been watching him & he'll just be sitting still, then suddenly begins licking himself really hard (mostly is back left leg, he's licked some hair off there I just noticed.) Then he'll run & stop, then lick, then run to different places of the house. Then just as quick as it came its gone & he just lays down like normal. He has no known injuries. In our place its my boyfriend, his mom, and me. She just left town a day before this started. Plus, its just started getting colder here in the past couple days. Could this have something to do with this? If so, is there anyway I can make him feel better I feel so bad for him. He acts normal all the rest the time, his best friend is a toy poodle, they grew up together & they still play like normal. Could he possibly have dry skin as well? How can I treat that in an inexpensive way? I'd spend all the money in the world to make him feel better if I had it, but we don't right now & I'm lost on what to do. Thanks for your help!

first let me say what a beautiful kitty!!
I love the black and white coloring although haven't had one with those colors for years, I still think they are beautiful!!
You really should take kitty to the vet for a good check over, when is the last time he has had that?
If no fur matts are seen than i would highly suspect Fleas....however if fleas are present around the back ie: tail area collars won't do the trick and a vet application would give all over control...
good luck

Our kitty acts like this if she is itching as well as when she has an undetected "fur knot."  The twitching you describe usually means discomfort of some sort ie pain or itching.  Do you use a flea control product?

Our cat will "twitch" like you describe if she has some fur knots.  These are very painful to a cat as they twist and pull their skin.  Our cat gets these knots often no matter how much I brush.  As soon as I get the knot/knots out, she's fine.

Of course, it may be more serious than just knots or fleas so I'm glad you have an appt, but I thought it might not hurt to check to see if there are any "fur knots."

Yes, good luck and let us know!

I would take him to the vet.  It could be his way of letting you know that something is wrong.  He might be having some pain there for some reason and the sooner you get any diagnosis the best for the cat.  Good luck and let us know what you find out!

Hugs,
Janet
