Hey Pip, I haven't been doing so well lately so lagging on the comments here, but I do keep up with Teia's progress...and progress it is! I especially like the most current photo of you petting both Teia and Hildie. Teia looks so darling sleeping on that shoe, too! And I bet you're right about Chessie looking like the kitty that tortured poor Teia with her previous family. We feel the same way about Jade in that her former family had no idea what a wonderful loving cat they had. They thought she was "cute" but they didn't *know* her. Do you know the owner has never come back to even see how Jade is? I guess we are not THAT amazed since they let us take their cat! It makes my husband and I sad to think of what her life used to be like and we are quite sure no one ever played with her, but that's all over with and she now has people who adore her just like Teia has you and Anita. Jade does the licking thing too! Mostly on my husbands forehead. She LOVES to do that! He will lie on the floor and she comes running to take her place in back of his head then go to town!
Wonderful advice to margypops, btw. And I am in agreement with her...you write beautifully and lovingly of all your girls and I am always excited to see there's a new post from you : )
Hey all;
With her travels earlier this evening, this makes 6 days in a row that Missy T has been traveling between her room and the master suite, even explored the walk-in-closet a little tonight. This morning made 5 in a row that she was in the room before breakfast time, and may have spent the whole night, with Hildie and Teis being in there. (3 of the 5 nights, she spent at least a little time on the bed, once the whole night, with both Anita and me.
Last night, Teia was chillin by the bookshelf on Anita's side. She hissed at Chessie, who likes to come to bed with me...stayed put as Chessie jumped up on the bed and snuggled on the off side of the bed, near me. I'm still thinking, from the strong reaction, that Chessie looks like a cat who picked on her back n the day.
Almost made it past the barrier cast by the guest bathroom and office doorways...they are right across the hall from each other, but there is a real neat scratchy post just beyond the "green line."
Had a little fun with the red bug from the laser pointer today, first time she's seen it. Calm, sedate, hunter, is the best way to characterize the reaction, I think.
It is so great to be seeing Miss Teia showing her inner kitten; even let me pick her up yesterday with almost no protest at all.
What an amazing life different she could have made for her previous people, if only their hearts and minds had been opened.
They had other concerns, which I understand.
But, we now have Teia, with no concerns that will cause us to treat her with benign neglect. Miss Teia is family for us, just as much as the kitties we chose at kittenhood.
In my faith, a family grows in only 3 ways...a new life is born to the family, a new life is wed to the family, or a new life is adopted into the family.
Teia is a third way baby, =)
Teia has come into the guest bath to see either Anita or myself, just not quite made it into the office yet.
thanks for that advice Pip I will continue feeding him , actually havent seen him since I wrote that but hes done it before , maybe Tweety is running him off .
Persistence, and treating his fear and aggression with unmitigated kindness...that's what worked with Teia, who had a decade to get set in her ways.
Whenever she clawed or bit me, I would show no adverse reaction, speak kindly to her and reach out again.
Much as we love them, these creatures are still predators as much as their huge cousins. A lot of their reactions are based on these instincts...
With Teia, I have shown her behavior, which is counter to her intuitive expectations.
Perhaps this little guy will react the same, but quicker, as he's had less life in which to form bad habits and memories.
You write so beautifully and lovingly about your kitties Pip..its always a pleasure to come and read them ..they seem to be doing great .I am trying to tame another little stray , he comes for food but hisses at me and swipes me with his claws ...any ideas how to tame him, I got a home for the last one and would be good to do the same for this little one, he sure is pretty and only a baby ..
Went to bed about 8 last night, Miss T followed me into the bedroom and took up position in front of the tv stand.
After I did my ablutions and slipped under the sheets, couldn't entice her up, but she did come over to Anita's side on the floor again.
Got woke up about 2 by kitty jumping up and standing on my chest.
Teia's mission looked to be giving my hand a thorough scrub down, then she laid by my side.
Antia sometimes has insomnia, so didn't come to bed until about 3...Teia had moved just enough so she could get in bed between us. Forced Anita to snuggle, ebul kitty.
Hildie jumped up on the bed, saw Teia (who said nothing)and immediately down again, went to her tote by the door.
Teia was still there when the alarm went off at 4:30; food o'clock!
By the time I got back to the feeding station after getting Chessie and Kessie their morning portion, both Hildie and Teia were at their bowls.
All was right in kitty world.
Hi Pip,
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading about Miss Teia and the other girls. I don't often comment but I do keep up with your threads and the love and patience that you and Anita show demonstrate remarkable if albeit slow but steady progress over time. Keep up the great work!
In yet more time Chessie may well win Teia over too.....although some cats never do get to like one another...same as some people I guess.
My two boys have been together for 6 yrs now, never fight..but just tolerate one another and of course the occasional passing hisssss....lol
