Cat with hair loss

My cat was being temporarily fostered by a friend. While he was away he was outside most of the time. When we got him back he was going bald on his belly, sides and legs. I've checked his skin but can't see any redness or bumps, but he is itching quite a bit and grooming a lot. I figured it was just stress-related, but now my husband and I are being bitten by something. He was given flea drops and we haven't SEEN any fleas (which we usually do whenever our dog gets fleas), but the bites are still continuing and we are both itching like crazy now. Any ideas what it could be?

So am I Cml, I even research stuff my Vet gives me....he's used to me now and is good abt it. This DE however is just fossilized earth,, no chemicals....only dangerous if inhaled b/c it's such a fine dust. But than I question how does it kill fleas? So jury is out until more can be learned, and always best to be on extra cautious side

How is Petti-Pet. Have you called the vet for meds.

........and Opus I just play on the VERY safe side, nothing goes on Mia unless the vet says so. That is just because I am not a real fan of Natural meds and not comfortable with them. Maybe you could use it on a pet---I just would not.

Anyway hope lifjt got help from the vet, yes?

I wondered about that on pets CM.....sometimes what they say is 'natural' isn't always a good thing, thx for bringing that up. I am grateful I have never had to use anything on my pets for fleas..

Call your vet and have them SEND you the meds by mail. Do not use the Diotomacious Earth.

That is for use only as a ant or flea repellant placed around the  living space of an animal . This helps ward off ants. This should not be used ON pets.

some ppl use it on pets too.....I would do so with alot of caution, even when they tell me 'safe for pets' I'm always skeptical. use a little don't sprinkle it on, instead take a bit in your hand and rub in into the fur...but like I said use just a little (less than specified) and don't sprinkle..would be extremely hard on cats lungs if inhaled...yours too. I would try just a teaspoon full, as a guess.
good luck

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I can't get him to the vet for the foreseeable future since my husband works all through the day. I will try the Diatomaceous Earth for the home though.

this is very likely still fleas even though you aren't seeing them...esp since kitty has been outside. Get a good flea treatment from your Vet clinic only!! and you may need to treat your home with Diatomaceous Earth...sprinkle it around on your carpets and furniture, just be sure to buy the food grade incase one of your animals ingests some off their paws...ALSO wear a mask when sprinkling it around as its very harmful to the lungs..when the very small particles are inhaled. best to keep animals out of the rooms when sprinkling it.
