Cat's nose bleeding adn rotting away - awful, help!

I've been feeding a stray cat for a few weeks, and the poor creature has got a really gross problem with his nose. I thought he'd been in a fight and got his nose chewed, because instead of having a nice pink triangle where his nostrils are, he had a big scab.

I thought it would heal by itself, but he keeps scratching the scab off, and it oozes with blood and pus. It smells bad. I'm allergic to cats, but took pity on him when he came begging in my garden. I don't think I can handle getting him in a box to take to a vet. I live in a country where cats are regarded as vermin and there isn't a cat charity to ask for help.

I looked it up on the internet, and I think he might have a fungal growth there that would require an expensive veterinary medication protocol that I can't afford even if I could somehow get him to a vet. Is there anything I could give him to help? Could I mix a human anit-fungal pill into his food?

He's suffering - he seems to think there's an invisible foe attacking his face and he puts his paws up to swipe it away from his nose area and makes such a pitiful sound of anxiety. Would it be kinder to get him euthanised - although I hate that idea. I feed him and pet him until my eyes water and I'm sneezing. He sits on my kitchen windowsill begging for comfort. Oh! I'm crying. Please help me to help him. Any advice would be great,

Thanks,

Suzie

aw Suzie. I'm so sorry to hear the kitty did not get the treatment. Cats are sometimes very hard to treat. The clawing thing makes it all even more difficult. The cat would have to be used to being handled, and this one, evidently isn't.

If you don't wish to put him to sleep yet, then please do not give up. He needs antibiotics. There are lots of natural healers fit for cats. Remember plants tend to be harmful to kitties. So perhaps the hydrogen peroxide would help. Have you tried calling a vet for advice? How about you post this on the expert forum? There is an expert forum on this website. They are excellent vets, certified people willing to offer free advice. I go there from time to time when I need a second or third opinion and they never let me down. I will keep an eye on your case. I would like to see a happy ending to this story.

To handle him you will need help. Two ppl can perfectly restrain a cat. Put a towel over his head so he won't bite ya. Grab him by the scruff of the neck ONLY. You can also google videos on how to restrain a cat to medicate it. Have you tried it?

Good Luck!

Thank you both for your responses to my plea for advice!
I can't bear the thought of having him put to sleep until I've tried more things to help him. Thanks for the suggestions.

I tried putting antiseptic on him nose, but it must have stung badly because he clawed at me (I had long sleeves, luckily). I tried using a long chopstick with a cotton bud on the end to try and avoid getting hurt, but he smelt the cream and ran off. Darn it. I don't have a room to confine him in - and my dog would terrify him, anyway.

It's heart-breaking. I had a wonderful cat for 10 years until he died of cancer this past October. Even with my allergy, he slept in my bed, snuggled with me on the couch and was loved and cossetted til the end. I took lots of anti-histamine pills!
We spent a fortune on medical care for him, and know that we couldn't have done more to help him.

And now there's this poor guy who never had a fraction of the love my cat had. Shame I've got children to feed!

I'll let you know what happens. Thank you so much, and Happy New Year to all animals, everywhere (including my kids...!).

Opus is right. If you cannot afford to care for him might as well take him to the vet, or perhaps the humane society and put him to sleep. Now, if he lets you pet him there is probably a thing or two you might want to try first.

Hydrogen Peroxide! Try to rub a bit of that around the nose and don't let him lick it. It will help fight infection. I know there are some natural antibiotics and healers, like yucca extract. If you could get some at the pharmacy and mix it in with his food (just a tat), that would help him as well. I can only imagine that poor creature's suffering. Keep the area clean. Can you lock him in a room for a week or so to try to keep that cleaned up and free of infections? Do you have a spare room you could put him in with food, water and a litter box to help that poor fella heal faster? Try it! See how that goes. Lure him into a room and keep him there until he heals.
There are plenty of over the counter topical creams for fungal infection. But because you don't have a diagnosis, I would try the hydrogen peroxide first, and the yucca extract, and see what happens. And hope for the best.

Hopefully someone else has more ideas to give you.

Good Luck. And awesome job trying to care for a stray kitty when you are allergic to him. That's very kind.

OMG that poor little creature!!.............that would be so hard to see this animal suffering like he is, there is no doubt a huge infection issue going on there and NO there is nothing you could add to his food that would be of any use.
I know its hard to do but this poor fellow needs to be taken to a Vet and probably euthanize if no one can afford to pay for his care!!
Please take him don't let him suffer like this...keep us updated please and thanks for your compassion
