ALT 700+

Hi,

I have a 9 month old Manx and he was not feeling well so the vet ran his bloodwork.  It seems that he has an ATL of 700+ for at least two months now.  He has been on Denamarin and it seems to be having no lowering effect.

What could make his ATL this high?  What can I do to help him get better?

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

ALT  (alanine aminotransferase), are sensitive indicators of liver damage or injury from differant types of diseases.
I assume Your veterinarian is doing follow up treatment as it can be serious but it can also be caused from medications.

A high ALT is most typically an indication of liver disease such as viral hepatitis.  Denamarin is a nutritional supplement that supports liver function but may not have a direct result of lowering ALT which is a measure of the amount Alanine aminotransferase enzyme that is being released into the bloodstream by the liver.  Liver diseases can be either chronic or acute, but even acute forms can require from several weeks to several months to resolve.
