My Cat's Unusual Habit

I have a loving, sweet-natured 5 yr. old Maine Coon named Truly. He has a curious habit. When sitting upright he will sometimes "gather" his tail with his front paws and proceed to kneed it,back and fourth, backand fourth. His eyes are squinted shut when he does this, and it almost seems he is smiling.  My husband and I are puzzled.Any ideas?

Oh I am so sorry to hear of you're loss and the complete shock of not even having time to prepare! The good side is you didn't have to watch you're beloved pet suffer, it was over very quick....
yes it is hard, we mourn our loved pets every bit as much as we mourn any lost friend...
there is a void in your hearts for a long time....let Truly help fill it for you.
take care you 3

Thank you so much for answering us.Truly is now our only baby.We lost our Bichon of 12 years Tuesday night to a hemmorage.Dr. said she had cancer. No signs until Tues. morning. We are in shock, and I think Truly knows it. He is sticking tightly to us both.Cries for his sister and looks around for her.Guess the pain of losing her will diminish in all 3 of us eventually. So hard. But thank you Opus88 for an answer

hi...thats cute perhaps he IS smiling
I'm not expert, just have had cats for most of my 59 yrs
in my opinion when cats knead a person, another cat, or object even themselves it is usually a sign of pleasure and remember kneading their mommy for milk.....it sometimes is more prevalent in kitties that have 'left' mommy at an early age.
nothing to worry over!!
