My cat isn't getting a long with my new kitten?

I got this kitten about a month ago and my cat coco hates it. I really don't know what to do because coco is an indoor/outdoor cat and ever since we got the kitten she rarley comes home (which is weird because coco is usually inside). However I know coco is fine because she passes by to eat in front of my yard everyday. I am just very worried that she is going to stop coming for good...because like I said she is mostly inside. I know she won't find another owner because she is a very skitish cat and only likes me and my sister. should I give the kitten away? everyone is telling me to give it some time but I can't stand seeing coco not being herself. do you think she is going to leave her territorty? and also will she be back to normal if I give the kitten away? I need some advcie...I fell inlove with the kitten and this is really stressing me out.

Good evening;

Looks you came up with a good solution between Coco and the kitten.  Good on your dad for adopting the kitten.  But, you can help Coco further.

She will be safer, healthier and happier as a mostly indoor kitty, where her outside time is only when you are out with her.  This the way that all of my kitties that liked to investigate the yard ever got or get out.

Contrary to some thoughts, cats do not need a large territory.  This is part of the reason why cats always seem to have a favorite spot.

Miss Teia, the older kitty about whom I write quite a bit, was content for 10 years with her previous family, and for almost 2 years with us, being in one room of the house almost ALL the time.

Teia's room is where she feels the safest, and she still spends 80% of her time in there.

She still is not pals with our other 3 cats, but she has eaten all her wet food meals (breakfast, supper and the occasional snack) with Hildiekatt (starting about 3 feet apart and now about 6 inches apart) for about a year and a half.  The past few days, Teia and Hildie have come very, very close to bumping noses for the first time.  When Teia leans forward a little, Hildie will lay down and purr up a storm.

What it takes is patience, kindness (which you have shown :-) and time, as little as 15 minutes a day working at changing Coco's way of life make a big difference.  Let Coco know that inside is the happiest pplace in the universe for her, with good food, clean water, the other niceties, including toys and a place where she can go and feel safe.

Take care - Pip

Glad your dad was willing to take in the kitten- it sounds like you came up with the best solution- now whenever you go to visit your dad, you can also get to see the kitty you fell in love with!

I'm glad that since you felt you had to give the kitten a new home you were able to keep the kitten within the family in a way.  At least this way it is someone you know will properly care for the little kitten.

Ok, so I give up...but you don't give up with your kitties.  They can get along and become friends or at least be cordial to each other :) Just give them their space and don't rush it.  Piparskeggr on here has a lot of experience with this issue.  Good Luck!

Awwww...I think this can probably be resolved.  Coco is just a little jealous right now.  How old is Coco?  Try to show Coco that you care for both of them  Give them treats at the same time if you can. I really think.. with some time they will accept each other.  Just be patient and show love to both ((>^-^^_^<) = ♥
