Just had to post...

My sister is going to sew a couple of cat toys for me and herself and I get to provide the catnip.  I was looking on amazon for a bulk amount and found this as a description:

Useful as a medicinal tea to alleviate coughing, cold symptoms, upset stomach and to aid sleep. Catnip is also used as a remedy in the treatment of tension and anxiety, and is mentioned as being a useful calmative for hyperactive children. Also listed as a mild diaphoretic, catnip can be helpful in eliminating toxins from the body. It may be used to add an unusual flavor to sauces, soups and stews, and be used as an herbal tea. Recreational drug for kitty Catnip causes most, but not all Cats to enter a state of totel ecstasy, complete with half-closed eyes and a lot of drooling. If you don't object to your cat doing something that you could be arrested for doing you will want to provide kitty with only the best in recreational drugs available.

I never thought of it that way but it's totally true.  I would be arrested for acting like they do.  ROFL

You don't mix catnip in the food.  All you have to do is let the cat sniff the container to show her what you are giving her.  Then, just take some out and rub slightly with your fingers to release a little more of the oils in the dried leaves right where you're giving the catnip to the cat.  The cat will instinctively do what cats do with catnip.  Mine mostly noshes on it.  She likes it placed on her cardboard scratching board.  Mine mostly eats what she wants of it, then she gets a good scratch in, then she goes off to sleep somewhere..  For some reason she isn't really all that into rolling around in catnip like a lot of cats are.

When we lived in Alaska I used to buy Thunderstruck for my cats.  You might be able to find it just about anywhere now.  They do love their catnip! :)
