What is this bump on my cat's upper lip?

My cat started losing some fur near on her upper lip area where the whiskers are and today I noticed that there was a bump. It doesn't seem to bother her. She is 16 years old and terrified of going to the vet so I don't want to take her unless necessary. Can anyone please tell me what this bump is? Thank you so much!

I don't know if it's relevant, but she developed feline acne not too long ago. We switched her bowl to a metal one and it seems to be improving (blackheads still there but her fur is going back).

Thank you for all your replies. It turned out to be a deep furuncle and the vet put her on antibiotics. I'm not sure what happened but the next day I woke up and she was barely moving. We took her back to the vet and it turned out she was severely dehydrate and has extremely high blood sugar (she's been diabetic for about two years). That had never happen before so I don't know if it was a coincidence or it was the medication and stress. The vet kept her for the day and she was doing better when she came home. It took a few days but she's back to normal now (she was walking funny before). We stopped giving her the antibiotics after that first day, but the furuncle seems to be getting better. Poor girl went through a lot those couple of days but I'm glad she's ok now.

the other posters have given you good advice. Jade refereed to a rodent ulcer this is very likely what it could be although they usually appear on the lip itself. my Sami had a similar bump that appeared on his eyebrow and it was finally dx'd as Eosinphlic Granuloma complex where rodent ulcer is also in the same family. his was traced to food allergies..namely chicken especially in the dry foods...it could also be a grain allergy also mostly associated with dry food diets, have you tried feeding your kitty canned foods? I also recommend you try grain free canned foods, its hard to get them to like these its like feeding broccoli when we've been eating candy....urrr

I will attach a photo of the sore my Sami had and I will also attach some reading and photos of granuloma complex and rodent ulcer and see if you can relate..please post a reply

Hi there....I was able to see the photo.  It *looks* like a Rodent Ulcer.  Google it.  I would share the link I was looking at, but I looked at a lot of sites for a photo but I can't find it now!  Sorry.

CML gave you good advice as far as a sedative/antihistamine (something good to have on hand for future vet trips anyway).  Get the sedative, then get your girl to the vet. :)

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Rockets,

Can't seem to pull up the photo from you post....but any lump should really be looked at by a Vet. She is 16 years old and I am sure still a beautiful "Golden Girl", but along with age come some serious medical conditions.

I understand her fear of the Vets....so perhaps you can take this Photo to your vet and see if he can make a determination without having her come in. Doubt it though, so see if the Vet can give you a sedative or antihistamine dosage that would settle her down for the trip.

Lumps and bumps should Always be SEEN by a Vet, they are the only one to make a diagnosis.

Good Luck and please keep us posted as to her condition. We learn new things everyday and can pass that knowledge on to others. Thanks
