cat licks fur from neck

My cat is 9 years old, he started licking his fur off from his neck and now it down to the chest.
He is an indoor and outdoor cat.  He mostly stays in the screened in patio, but he has a cat door to outside.
He pees outside,  doesn't use the litter box in the house.
There have been some stray cats around lately, especially when my neighbor has been feeding one of them.
The front of my house smells like cat spray.....  Don't know if this has anything to do with it..  He does fight when them sometimes.
Any suggestions on what to do?

My cat is scratching so bad he's bleeding. I have too clean fur off the floor.  He's going bald what could it be.

hi, this is a very common problem and can be an allergy from everything from scents to food to a flea bite. has he been checked for fleas? I will give you a link with some reading with some good info and a place to start.

Did you do anything special to stop him from licking off his fur?

Our cat did that as well a few years back. The vet could find nothing wrong and said it could be stress from other cats around.  We have a couple of strays around our yard.  His chest, belly and legs were bare, but finally filled in again.
