Radiation is one of those of those treatments that "Makes you ill to make you better". The problem with animals is you can't explain that to them.
So...it's really only viable if you're looking at a potentially very positive outcome. But you are jumping the gun here. Take one step at a time! See how the freezing treatment goes, Assuming it works out, you won't even need to worry about radiation treatment.
Hi, I'd go for the freezing!! Vets can give your cat pain meds AND send you home with some. That's awesome that you have a healthy 15 yr old. Those skin cancers can spread inside the body, if they're not treated!! The freezing is better than putting your cat through radiation or chemo!! They poison the body, where freezing is dealing with the skin surface!
Radiation, chemotherapy, or any type of treatment stresses the cat. It's worth only when you are seeing a good outcome. If the cat is old, not getting better even with treatment but instead gets worse then it isn't worth trying anymore. Give it a try see how it goes. Your cat will let you know if she can handle it or not. The method, like Savas says, has improved the quality of life of some cats. So your kitty may very well respond positively to it. Just don't put her through much discomfort and stress if you don't see progress.
Good Luck!
I just dont want my kitty to suffer! Is radiation a painful thing?I hate pain and i dont like my pets to be in pain either, sometimes the cure is way worse than the complaint. She does cry or anything like that and she has a hearty appetite, and still bosses the dogs around!
Don't lose heart; I've heard good things when it comes to this treatment. If it does work it saves your cat a great deal of discomfort and suffering from radiation therapy.
