lethargic kitten

We had our 3 month kitten spayed Wednesday 12/17.  She was fine the first week but last few days she has become lethargic and not really eating.  She is still drinking some.  She has also thrown up clear frothy looking liquid a couple of times this evening.  I plan to take her to vet first thing Monday morning.  Any advice until then??

Hi Mom,

I am so sorry to hear you lost Penelope too. Happy though to hear you are now 1mom5boys with CJ in the house . You are probably right , he has had it with all the attention his rear end has gotten. He will right back to cuddly as soon as he feels better though. All the love you will give him will let him know he is more than the sum of his rear end, LOL!

Best to both of you and your 4 human boy's. Stay in touch!
Sincerely,
CML

I started with the Vaseline today.  I feel so bad for him.  He was a very affectionate cat before this.  Now he tends to spend his days on the office chair.  With all the poking, cleaning, etc. he's been through the past couple of weeks, i'm sure he thinks that's all we're going to do. His poop is more solid now, no more diarrhea.  I'm hoping when the swelling goes down, he'll be back to normal. Thank you for the suggestions!!

I am so sad to read u lost  little Penelope too I do hope Cj can make a full recovery, what an amazing caring person ur to care so deeply for these little strays, the Vet bill must hv been horrendous!!! You r an inspiration to all of us.

His poor little bottom must be terribly sore, poor little guy....I'm kinda surprised the Vet recommended neosporin, since Cj wld lick the area and I didn't think the ingredients are meant to b taken internally. I wld use it very lightly or go wth a tiny dab of white Vaseline, very light also, don't want to promote more loose stools

Try to keep the small bits of poop off his bottom, if u can give him a gentle wipe as soon as possible after each poop because this fecal matter will sure burn an already raw area an compound the irritation

Is he still having diarrhea or hopefully his stools per more formed now???

Good luck momma and little guy, keep us posted plz

A week after we lost Xena I was at the vet with her littermate Penelope and my sons cat CJ. They had both become lethargic and Penelope diarrhea. The vet immediately put them on an iv to give them fluids and kept them for treatment.  We lost Penelope a several days later and CJ was able to come home after 10 days. They tested negative on fecal test vet did. He believes it was a viral infection that Xena may have picked up at the clinic that did her spay. He has been home a few days and is slowly gaining weight and getting better.  Vet wasn't sure about him making it at first. He was so weak and drained.  My question for ya'll is: any suggestions on relieving some of the pain associated with his swollen bottom??  Diarrhea left it raw and it hurts when he uses the litterbox.  Vet suggested putting some Neosporin on it a couple times per day.  Also when he poops, a tiny bit stays on his bottom and ends up rubbing off wherever he goes to sit/lay.  I am a homeschooling mom so we try to watch him throughout the day and clean him as soon as he is done but we don't catch them all.  He has claimed my office chair as his own so I keep a towel on it to make clean up easier.  Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!

Hi Mom,

Like dominosarah has said they have traps specifically for trapping and Neutering (TN) --They being any human society or rescue. Ask them if you can borrow one and they will tell you which food is best to use as a lure.

Cat goes in ,door closes behind her and off to the vets she goes for spaying.  Just be sure the trap is somewhere you will HAVE to see--there have been sad cases where isolated traps were not checked and cats have died.

Good luck with mama. The mom is probably feral having never been domesticated. They are very difficult because their survival depended on NO human contact, so they will not be your regular house cat. They will be vicious if cornered , so trapping is the only successful way of capturing them.

Keep us posted, K?

They have live traps you can try.  Put some food in there.

Thank ya'll for responding and trying to help.  She was from a litter a stray had in our shed.  We currently have her sister and brother inside.  We are working on catching the mama cat so we can fix her and the other two kittens as well.  Any ideas on how to catch a stray who seems afraid of humans??

Oh dear mom, I am so sorry to hear this. Unfortunately we all have learned lessons the hard way. If your experience can help others then your little girl will help save the next one.

Stay on this forum if you would so that you can help those who are new like you were. Now you are able to help others from having to deal with the pain you are going through.

God Bless your little Angel, may her spirit always be with you.

Sincerely,
CML

We lost her shortly after I posted here.  We found an emergency animal hospital close to us but she never made it there.  Thank you for responding.  This was our first experience with a female kitty so we were at a loss on what was normal or not.

Hi. I take care of lots of females after surgical procedures.
Never had one throw up. ( I work for a animal welfare organization)
Please let us know how she's doing.
Motherless kittens drink goat milk. When I was in California I saw some in a can. Here we use powdered goat milk. Call the vet and see if she could have a little of that.
When my own cat doesn't feel well, I give her loads of extra attention.
She gets one teaspoon of tuna fish per week. Maxy

Hi Mom,

I would try and find a emergency Vet clinic and take her today. A kitten is so fragile and if she is throwing up and not eating that is not good. She probably will need IV fluids. She also needs to be checked for a fever and infection. . Lets face it she has a tiny little body and there is a lot going on with it. The combination of things IMO warrants an emergency stop. , but that is just me.

Good luck to you and your baby!
