sores to cats legs and stomach

Hi, looking for any advice please.  My cat has weeping sores on her back thighs and stomach. I took her to the vet who was no help, didn't know what it was said it could be this it could be that. She was given a steroid and antibiotic injection last week which seems to have perked her up but the sores look no better.  Just picked her up to have a look and saw a load of pinhead sized insects crawling over her, yellow in colour. Guessing this must be mites? I cant afford to keep taking her to the vet for them to fob me off each time. Anyone else had a similar problem? X

Hi M,

I am going to take her to another vet in the hope they give me an explanation and course of treatment I can use! I already use a miele pet hoover daily and have a flee spray for furnishings etc. She is outside mostly as we live on a farm.  Thank you for your response :)

there are a lot of people here who know cat care better then me, but my kitty is allergic to fleas,  and they will bite her and then she scratches so bad that the sores get infected.  I am really surprised that the vet did not go further into the care that your kit must start receiving.

First I had to get rid of all the fleas on her and in my house.  Daily cleaning is a must and a good flea medicine that is applied every 3 weeks to 4 weeks that kills the eggs that the fleas lay.  You must wash all soft items, blankets, pillows, sheets, quilts and do that on a weekly or bi weekly basis.

Get yourself a powerful vacumn and vacumn every day under furniture and in dark out of the way places.  I even ripped all the carpets out of my house and now have just bare wooden floors.

If you go to Wikipedia you can find images on the life cycle of the flea and what the larve look like, what the eggs look like and what the fleas look like.  All 3 have to be eradicated from the house and the kit must continue to receive flea medication during this time.  If your kit is also an outdoor cat and indoor cat, you may have to rethink about letting her outside where other animals have active fleas...

I hope a little of this helped, hoping someone will come by and post something that may really be helpful

Good luck to you

M
