? about right after surgery

Just out of curiosity, do they give you pain meds before you wake up after the surgery? I am just wondering how much pain I should expect to be in?

I was on morphine, when I woke up I asked for Dilaudid.  I did throw up the night of surgery, the doctor said that was a good sign it meant they were in the right area, lol.

um, I'm nervous. Not so much about the surgery rather than the complications afterwards. I also have 5 children under 7. and my twins which are 17 months, well they haven't spent 1 night away from me since they were born. So that is a little scary for me! I just want it to be done and over with really, and hopefully get a good outcome!! I probably wont be back on here before your surgery so best wishes to you and god luck with your surgery!! :)

Hi Tia!  I'm right on your heels for surgery (Monday the 8th) so thank you for asking all of the questions for me!  ; )

I kinda feel like I'm fighting a cold too... but in CA, we've had Santa Ana winds so I'm thinking it's probably allergies.  Are you guys having weird weather out there?  (My mom & stepdad just drove from Minnesota through Colorado to Arizona a few days ago & said there were wind advisories the whole way).  Just throwing it out there in case that's a possibility for you.

How are you feeling about the surgery?  I haven't been sleeping so I finally took a Xanax last night!  (It's killing me not to be able to take Ibuprofen or Excedrin!)

yep!  everyone is put on the iv drip of morphine....then once you wake up and are out of recovery, they give you the pump and it's up to you to push it when you need the meds.  i agree with selma...tell them in advance that you react to pain meds and will need anti nausea meds given in conjunction with pain meds...tell them NOT to wait and see!!!  not fun to be sick after major surgery!!  but you shouldn't be in pain and if you are, tell them right away so they can get you fixed up...don' wait.

Hi...I had a IV tube with morphine drip in me as I woke up....no worries for the pain....but I did react to the morphine...got sick so do ask about anti nausea meds to help with that.

U will be fine...talk to ur NS.....and it does depend on how u respond to meds too.
