Chiari pain after orgasm

My girlfriend has chiari and sometimes when I give her an orgasm, she has a sharp pain in her head and gets dizzy. Any ideas on how the sharp pain and dizziness can be stopped or helped at all?

Hi I have stage 2 Chiari malformation. My headache are 24/7.I haven't found anything that helps I know that sounds trouble but over the years I gotten so use to it. It doesn't really bother me too much. I have a lot of other problems I can control. Anyways what I am trying to say is there isn't much you can do but try and get used to it. I know it sounds impossible but there is nothing else you can do. When I first started getting my headache what did help is closing my eyes and scaring into my hands or the closes thing I could find.sorry I know this doesnt really help but I figured I would try.

Also don't talk to he while she is having the headache it makes it worse. Rub her back or something. Shut off the light and anything making noise.

I'd say if she has an orgasm that makes her dizzy and disoriented, you are doing something right.

But I'm a pig.

As a young woman and have a boyfriend that has a sexual appetite of a hungry grizzly bear, I found out the spooning position with my head tilting back just a little bit tends to help with the post pain. As her body or head won't be moving back and forth as much. Also make sure she continues to breath during it all. As I tend to do I forget to breath through the whole thing, the pressure causes very intense migraines. I also find laying completely flat on the bed with pillows at the top of my head seems to keep me from having the there after pain. Or if she wants to be on top very slow motions with her head held level  as if she is watching TV or staring at the wall also seems to help as well. II'm sorry for describing it all but I hope this helps you and your gf and any other female who expierence these problems.

I have to say I think it's a combination of all the answers above! When it happened to me, I have been married to the most wonderful man for 17 yrs, it was terrible! Nothing can ruin the "mood" quicker than your partner crying! I thought I was going to die and  had to call my sister to come help! (She's an EMT- going to school to be a pare medic) after rest it got better.  I am able to call my family dr, and after explaining and having to answer all his questions truthfully:) I was told to just be careful. But the biggest issue was getting past it. Hopefully I won't offend, but you might say we were both "gun shy" for a while.

I have had this problem too, and I have to agree with other's.  It's not the orgasm that gives me the headaches.  Orgasm actually helps relief pressure.  It is the position of the head.  Bending forward or backward will bring the head ache on.  I have been told bending the head either way cuts off the flow of your spinal fluid which goes to the brain.

Is it also possible she is putting her head back, as if raising her chin during sex or at the point of orgasm?  I know that as a young man, I experienced severe headaches sometimes after sex, and in retrospect I realize that I was putting my head back at the point of orgasm and that shuts off the flow of CSF, thus causing the severe headache.

Tell her to breathe. Talk her through it. It will take awhile, but it's SO worth it. It truly helps.

Yeah, it may be either the body motion issue or maybe she is holding her breath while she orgasms. An orgasm, if she is a breath holder, can be a valsalva maneuver in that respect. This is personal, but I will say that I catch myself holding my breath when I get close, and I have to remember to breath, even if I make a lot of noise (that I won't go into, lol) so that I don't wind up with a pounding headache later.

If that does not help her, try different positions that don't put a lot of strain on her neck, or put her head at too much of a downward angle, and be gentle, if you can.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Well, if there was an answer to that we would all like to know....sorry, but even post op I would not venture there as I know all to well what  activities I can and can not do with out pain.

Is it possible  it is more from the activity and not the end result that is triggering these symptoms?

Has she been to a chiari dr for more testing?....like a CINE MRI to check for a CSF obstruction and overcrowding?
