Chiari Neurologist

Hi All,

New to this site and was hoping someone could give me a suggestion for a Neurologist in the Boston or South Shore area who specializes in Chiari Malformation. I have found some neurosurgeons but have not had luck with a Neurologist.

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

We do have a few members up in that corner of the world.....as for a NL the NS would be a great one to ask as they do work hand in hand and should know the ones familiar with this condition and all related conditions.

We have a list of Drs but it is NS's not NL's.....

May I ask y u r looking for a NL?....How is ur PCP, sometimes they can be very helpful ....mine  is great and I use mine to dx instead of going to a NL as I could not get into one  in my area....

Hope this is helpful....and I am sure the members in ur area will post a reply as well.

Glad to have u join us, sorry for the reasons u r here tho.

I am looking for a NL for help with symptom management. I am not at the point of surgery just looking for some guidance. My PCP although great is unfortunately not very helpful or comfortable in this area.

Thanks for your reply!

A good NL is hard to find.  (in my area, w/2 teaching hospitals, they tend to move on, or microspecialize).  But frankly, there's not much they can do for our condition that a pcp can't do for symptom management.

You might want to read "the Chiari Book", by Dr. John Oro; ch. 8 is on treatment options.

Viv has a great idea...u may want to try DrO's book.... but not knowing ur area I do not know what to suggest.....as I said a NS should be better able to tall u NL's in ur area that they work with....

How about a PM clinic?.....Again not knowing which symptoms u need help with...hard to suggest....but, sometimes they can be of great help too.

I am sorry ur PCP is not comfortable helping u, luckily mine was...and the NL's around here did not want to take me knowing I was going for surgery,...odd I know...but I wanted them for post op care and could not get them to set it up....so, my PCP is my go to guy and I am happy with that.

If you're new to illness, you'll discover that you have to be your own advocate (that includes educator) much of the time.  Sorry to say.
