AN Update

Hey All,
Just an update of the last 2 weeks. It has been rocky. Weekend before last I went to the colorado river to my uncles river front property to get away for memorial day weekend. I had a hard time cus I couldnt go out in the sun due to the Nortriptoline causes me to be sensitive to the sun... I broke out in a rash on my arms after being in the sun for 20 minutes. On top of that I had a headache and neck pain so I had to sit in the house and watch everyone have fun. This past weekend I had a bachlorette party for my friend in vegas which I am a bridesmaid in her wedding and she wanted to go to the the pool at one of the hotels and I couldnt cus of the sun once again and I this time had a MONSTER headache form H-E-Double hockey sticks and I had to go back to the room and sleep for a few hours this one was bad!!!! anytime I flipped from side to side while I was laying down it felt like my brain was shifting and when I got up I had pressure and could feel a pulsating throbbing in my head it was one of those headaches where I would have gone to the hospital if they had a kaiser in vegas but the didnt. I saw a soecialist on friday for my 2nd opinion and he thinks the issue is coming from my brain stem and wants to see what my MRI results are from friday which I should be getting tomorrow. In the mean time he started me on Fentanyl patches, Oxycodone 5mg and Topamax....I started al that on friday and my question is today I feel VERY NAUSEATED has anyone felt that with any of these meds? I also feel very out of it and HOT like I am boiling... Any feedback?

Hi Devin...so sorry to hear all ur outside plans r getting sacked from chiari and meds!!

DO u wear a brimmed hat and good sunglasses?

I need to wear a hat in the sun and if u worn a cover and sat under an umbrella (beach type) u might get more outdoor time and be safe from rash and HA's????

I had problems oxycodone...got very itchy...never on the topomax....but the sun does give me major HA's always has....the hat  helps big time as do the good glasses.

Thanks for the update...I was wondering about u : )

I was on Topomax for a while and I can tell you right now depending on our dose and what they have you working up to ...... you will feel more than "out of it"

I worked my way up to 200 mg/day. At the lower dose I had my worst side effects. Not until I got up to a higher dose did they go away. The nausia was always there a bit and with the other meds your taking..... no wonder.

I am off the Topomax now as it did nothing for the headaches.

Good luck.....I have heard horror stories about it but it was not that bad once I got to the dose that seemed to work best for my body regarless if it worked for the headaches.
