Bovine

Not sure if i spelled that right. How many people have one? Is it different from having one harvested from your own tissue. I had mine harvested the first surgery. Now the doctor says he will use a Bovine. If you was facing surgery which would you pick?

I will send u a link....but not all with EDS will have stretchy skin...my joints are hyperflexible, but I do not think my skin is as stretchy as some others.....

So that comment the skin would be baggy is incorrect. U could have a softer skin, one that bruises easier than most, slower to heal.....

There is a type of EDS that does affect the heart, so do have ur heart checked as well,.

No honestly I havent. I have no clue on where to begin. The old NS laughed at me when I asked about eds. She said my skin would be saggy,. I told her it isnt saggy but it sure does strech. I also have been having issues with my heart. It feels as if it skips sometimes.  That is very true about meds! I can only take one antibotic & thats it. Every new thing they  try i have a reaction to it.

If ur body does have rejection issues then it is highly possible u have EDS...as that is one of the symptoms we do have.

Even meds lose their effectiveness overtime...or we can take it once and it works and the next time we r allergic....

Have u tried to see if u r hypermobile by looking at some of the ways they determine an EDS dx?

The 1st decompression i had she use my own tissue. He said that the bovine has less of a chance of leaking. No I have not been tested for EDS. However i do have a appointment on the 29th with a NL so I am going to ask him. Zygy Im like you my body rejects everything that I try. I always say i get the bad end of the deal!

Hi Samantha :)  I was going to send you a message when I noticed this post!  When my NS did my second surgery for the pseudo, he did NOT remove the old patch, he just closed the area that was leaking??? Not sure why your NS will remove the patch unless your harvested tissue has a hole in the middle or something??  My NS closed the leak, sealed with the glue and then tested to see if it held by causing pressure, closed me when it was not leaking.  Because he only closed the leak he did not see that the patch was stuck to my head which is what caused my third surgery two weeks later.  I wish I had never gone with the bovine but at the same time, I think it is pretty small chances that you have a problem with it. It just appears where there is a small chance, I always seem to get it!  I am so happy to have my own tissue now!  Some NS's don't like to do the harvesting of your tissue.

  Hi Samantha,

Bovine is correct...that is from a ox or cow..... They also have patches that are from cadavers, or synthetic.

Mine is also my own skin which was harvested from my scalp...the reason I had this done and would do so again is bcuz I was dx'd with Ehlers-Danlos...I run a higher risk of rejection....so ne foreign material would pose a threat.

Were u tested for EDS?....and what reason did ur Dr give for using bovine over ur own skin...granted ur own skin is more work, as they do have to harvested .....the bovine comes in ready to go.
