I'm sorry about your panic attacks, I also get them and I know they are miserable. Something that has helped me a lot through this process is yoga and stretching. I'm not able to do as much after surgery but doing simple stretches and focusing on getting my breathing under control can help calm me down. Might sound kind of silly but it's with a shot! Good luck
Hello. Welcome to a safe and encouraging place to get support from members who care about each other's well being. Your panic attacks are understandable - especially in times of significant pain. I know that I panic when I feel like I have no control over something important to me. Your health and your physical abilities are threatened right now. The best way to start off is to read all the information you can find about Chiari malformation and related disorders. Reading will help you to understand medical terminology that doctors will use. Another thing to help with the anxiety and panic is to keep a very detailed symptom journal. Note activities that you have been doing before the onset of a symptom. List all symptoms - even when they seem minor. This will help the doctor to prescribe the best care plan for you.
Don't get overwhelmed with all the information that comes at you. Try some relaxation techniques (meditation, aroma therapy with candles or insence, calming music, etc). But the key thing to think about is that there are people who can help you through especially difficult times. Keep posting with question that arise and always know you are not in this alone.
Maybe you all should also look into Pots and Dysautonomia . It might not be actual panic attacks. I have heard these two diagnosis are often seen with Chiari.
Dinet.org has some info.
Hello I have also been recently diagnosed. MRI showed 10mm tonsil length. I've been having panic attacks as well. This is scary.
I'd like to be able to talk to others and learn about their experiences, treatments, feelings, successes.
My husband says I should feel relieved to finally know what's going on. Have not seen the neurosurgeon yet, as we live in a smaller community and I need to travel.
Don't know that I do feel relieved though??
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum. Panic attacks can be Chiari related, just knowing your diagnosis and Chiari affects the brain stem.Know you are not alone.
