Oh no, I hope it's not back...

Hi all. I haven't been here in a while.  I had surgery without duraplasty on 8/15/11 then went to rehab for 3 months because I was unable to walk before surgery (still can't).  Some things got very much  better immediately after surgery and I really didn't have much surgical pain at all.  My tremors and weakness in my arms went away. As did my nystagmus and mild incontinence.  My breathing got much easier and my pressure headaches went down to about 1 a month.  No pain on straining, laughing, coughing etc.  Since my legs had been bad for over a year he said it could take up to 2 years to get them back, so I'm not concerned about that yet.  I do have cognitive problems now which they are attributing to lupus but I find it interesting that it appeared after surgery.... anyhow.  Now I'm getting tremors back and headaches.  Neck pain is almost unbearable (which I didn't have before or after surgery) and weakness and dizziness.  I did have to go down on the steroids I take for lupus so perhaps that has allowed swelling in the surgical area, I don't know.  But I sure hope it isn't "back".

Thanks Selma. I wasn't tested for those, but I do have Lupus.  I will call because my tremors are worse, but I can't feel any swelling.

Hi and welcome back!!

So sorry u r having post op issues...and I would ask, when do u go for ur next post op follow up and MRI?...Call ur NS and let him/her know just what is going on...it could be scar tissue...ICP...just about nething.

I did find I had symptoms flare while recovering and was told that is typical to have happen...only it should not be worse or last longer then it did b4 surgery.

I would have to ask that question I ask everyone, were u checked for Ehlers-Danlos?...tethered cord?...these 2 issues can cause post op issues.... and ICP is something that can develop post op...so u deff have to  get checked and rule these out.

Again, having some symptoms flare up during recovery is normal...and u have to look at what u r doing on a daily basis....u may be doing too much for the point in time u r in ur recovery....do not go by a time line a Dr give u, LISTEN TO UR BODY!!

Only u can know when u r ready for the next phase in recovery....
