Chiari and coffee

Everytime I drink a cup of coffee I have this pressure in my throat (roof of mouth) and face.  It comes and goes for a duration, most likely until the caffeine wears off.

Does anyone else have this problem when they drink coffee?  I have not had a CINE MRI, any my Chiari specialist does not do them.  Can caffeine increase CSF and therefore cause pressure when the fluid is getting trapped (pressure build-up)?

GERD can indeed cause swallowing issues as can thyroid issues.....

There is a test called a barium swallow test...doesn't taste great, but not a diff one to get thru.

There  is also a PH test....it all depends on ur GI dr....I have a hiatal hernia..had an endoscopy to determine that.....

I totally understand , I have back burner-ed many other health issues as a result of chiari too, but it is diff to deal with the GERD and not to hard to resolve if u get tested.....change of diet can help as well as lifestyle modifications....see the Health Pages for the GERD forum.....for tips on lifestlye modification and foods that r safe and foods to avoid with GERD.

I have not been diagnosed with GERD, but I'm pretty sure I have some sort of problem with acid reflux.

Can GERD cause swallowing problems?  Food gets stuck in my throat and when I'm not eating, it feels like something is stuck in my throat.

How do doctors test for GERD?  Yipee, another test!

I have actually had problems with this for a while, but the Chiari has taken preference and bringing up one more problem to my doctor is not something I like to do.

Thieb9 is correct....caffeine for GERD is not a good idea, many with chiari seem to have it...if possible try to avoid coffee.

It is odd as caffeine can help with a CSF leak, but is the worst thing for GERD.....we can have contradicting issues all at once.

Do you have GERD? I do and I use to drink coffee all of the time and had those issues. After the LONG time it took me to stop drinking, my symptoms went away
